American Professional Agency, Inc. began operations in 1940 at its headquarters in New York City. In 1972, APA moved its offices to its present location. Focusing on professional liability insurance with special emphasis in the mental health field, APA has grown to be the largest writer of mental health professional liability insurance in the United States. With over 100,000 policyholders, APA ranks in the top 100 insurance brokerages in the country.

Approximately one half of our clients are insured with member companies of American International Group which holds the highest possible rating awarded by A.M. Best Co. APA also represents other fine insurance companies such as Executive Risk Indemnity, Inc., The Doctors' Company, and Gulf Insurance Group, which are all rated A- or better.

APA maintains a staff of over 65 people who have been cross-trained in each department. Our state of the art computer system is constantly upgraded to meet the needs of our clients and we use the most comprehensive software programs in the agency field which has been developed by us over the last 30 years.
